Register is an amazing thing: a difference in
one word can change a serious speech into an amusing one. AS professional
interpreters, we spend so much time when putting voice to a deaf presentation
on understanding the source message, we often forget to really listen
to the target language coming out of our own mouths.
This workshop provides interpreters with the
opportunity to learn the different registers in use through American
Sign Language, and their equivalences in Spoken English. At the conclusion
of the workshop, participants will translate items that are frozen in
English into usable, formal presentation in American Sign Language.
