This workshop discusses a technique called "Four
Folding," which is a text (discourse) analysis technique which
focuses on certain aspects of the speaker and the message, as opposed
to the specific vocabulary within the text. Presented and researched
by Cynthia Herbst and Sandra Gish, it was shared with Accent on Interpreting
by Sharon Wade. It should be looked at as a tool to help strengthen
ones processing skills as they relate to interpreting.
The technique involves literally folding one
sheet of paper into fourths (hence the name). Each quadrant is used
to determine certain points of information related to the speaker/signer/author
or the speaker/signer/author's message.
