Accent on Interpreting was created in early 2000 by Maryanne Huber, CI/CT, and Heather Hollingsworth. We had two goals in mind:
- To create a new resource for interpreters and interpreting students to polish their skills through mentorships, research materials, workshops, and workbooks, in order to increase the ranks of certified interpreters.
- To remember that INTERPRETING CAN BE FUN!!We agreed from the outset that making money was never as important as making quality interpreters, so our prices remain as low as we can possibly keep them. We understand what it's like to try to survive on an interpreter's salary!
Maryanne Huber, CI/CT
After 15 years as an interpreter at the National Center on Deafness (California State University, Northridge, California), where she received most of her training as an ASL Diagnostician and Mentor, Maryanne is now working as an Adjunct Instructor in the Interpreter Training Program at Tulsa Community College in Tulsa, OK. She has worked as a mentor and diagnostiction through the Video Outreach Mentorship Program at CSUN, and was fortunate enough to be trained by some of the best in the business. She interprets in medical, legal, theological, and educational settings throughout Los Angeles and Northeastern Oklahoma. As a trained mime and actress, she has been able to bring her stage training to her teaching and interpreting in a way that makes her interesting and accessible in the classroom or through mentorships. Maryanne is constantly working on new ideas and techniques to try to eliminate the danger of injury to full time interpreters. She hopes this company and the services it provides may prove to be a way to re-invest in the community that accepted her so many years ago.

Heather Hollingsworth
The first thing to notice about Heather is how much she hates being the center of attention. An accomplished musician who enjoyed years playing in orchestra and band, she found a second creative career that allowed her to stay behind the scenes in web design. After a few years producing her proudest accomplishments, three delightful children, Heather found herself working as an assignment dispatcher for an interpreting agency in Los Angeles. Since her move back to Tulsa she has received training in C-Print, a software program that allows her to transcribe spoken English into a typewritten form. She looks forward to sharing what she learns while researching the new world that has opened up to her.
